Commissioning Support Officer - Prevention

We have an exciting opportunity for two permanent commissioning support officers to join Southampton City Council (SCC) in the Prevention commissioning team

About the team

The prevention commissioning team has recently been established and leads on the commissioning of a range of services which aim to prevent, reduce and delay increasing health and care needs for residents of Southampton. This includes:

  • Public Health services such as Substance Use Disorders, Sexual health & Smoking Cessation
  • Voluntary sector support to provide advice, information and guidance as well as a range of specific functions such as Carer support.
  • A range of other support services in relation to housing, domestic abuse, hoarding, sex workers and weight management

About the role

You will be joining a small team dedicated to commissioning high quality services which prevent increasing need and enable people to maximise their health, wellbeing and independence.

The role will require skills, knowledge and expertise to:

  • Undertake needs assessment to inform planning and develop commissioning options including the analysis of a variety of information.
  • Undertake service reviews and develop option appraisals to support commissioning decisions.
  • Work with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure active participation in the development and design of services.
  • Lead on areas of system redesign to achieve agreed outcomes and improvements, adopting a project management approach.
  • Develop detailed service specifications which are based on clear measurable outcomes and include arrangements for monitoring and review.
  • Identify priorities and gaps in existing service provision and propose effective and value adding solutions.
  • Work with service providers and others to develop a culture of continuous improvement using contracting mechanisms as appropriate.

About you:

You will have prior health or care commissioning experience or equivalent transferrable skills as well as a passion for continuous improvement, service redesign and maximising outcomes for the residents of Southampton.

Salary: The salary band for this role is £45,718 - 49,764 per annum (£22,859 - £24,882 pro rata). The starting salary is £45,718 (£22,859 pro rata) with annual progression through the salary bands.
