Electrical Technical Officer

We have an exciting opportunity for a Permanent, Full Time, Electrical Technical Officer to join Southampton City Council (SCC) in the Asset Management Team.

About the team:

You will join the Risk & Compliance team at a time of significant change with an ambitious improvement programme underway.

About the role:

  • Lead and manage a team delivering electrical maintenance and compliance services, including inspections, testing, and installations.
  • Oversee contracts related to electrical systems such as fire alarms, lightning protection, gates, and fixed appliances.
  • Plan and execute maintenance programmes and upgrade projects in line with budget and compliance deadlines.
  • Coordinate with the Mechanical Technical Officer to ensure a seamless service across electrical and mechanical provisions.
  • Ensure all services comply with relevant legislation, safety standards, and SCC’s internal policies and values.

About you:

  • Evidence of substantial electrical knowledge gained over a significant period (in excess of 5 years) within a trade or construction background, with responsibilities associated with site inspection. Minimum Qualified to HND/HNC, or to equivalent level 4 NVQ, or level 5 VQ or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or similar relevant discipline.
  • Experience of working in a Social Housing environment. (Local Authority or Housing Association).
  • Minimum three years’ experience working in electrical maintenance with experience of building defects and contract management.
  • The postholder will be required to have access to own transport and capable to attend various sites across Southampton City Council.
