Senior Transport Planner Capital Projects

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Transport Planner (Capital Projects) to join Southampton City Council’s (SCC) Integrated Transport service.

Southampton has some bold and ambitious plans for growth and having an effective and efficient transport network is vital in achieving that.  With our twenty year transport strategy – Connected Southampton 2040 – we are embarking on this journey to transform the city.

About the role:

As a Senior Transport Planner (Capital Projects) you’ll be in the Transport Delivery Team within the Integrated Transport service and play a significant role in developing Southampton through work on developing major transport infrastructure projects.  You’ll work with partners such as Network Rail, National Highways and neighbouring local authorities to bring forward the case for investment in these projects.   You’ll be responsible for assisting in developing, implementing and monitoring innovative major projects, such as Northam Rail Bridge, that provide a platform for strong and sustainable economic growth and help to improve people’s lives.

As Senior Transport Planner (Capital Projects) you would be tasked working with internal and external partners and external consultants to develop the scheme and business case so that funding submissions can be made to Government.

About you:

You will need to be educated to a degree level of education in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering or similar with experience in the local transport planning field particularly around project management and major scheme development and business cases.  with experience of developing and delivering strategic transport plans, policies and funding bids, working with a wide variety of stakeholders – including politicians, understanding their views, and project management of complex transport projects.

You will be able to demonstrate complex analytical problem solving skills, ability to work in pressured environments, to time and budget, and have excellent communication and written skills.
